Stefan Sagmeister, one of the most multi talented graphic designers of our time.

He has worked with various clients such as The Rolling Stones, Pat Metheny Group, Lou Reed, Douglas Gordon’s Berlin Guggenheim Museum.

His works mix unpredicted techniques with striking point of sensational and humorous. From engraving D-I-Y text on his skin for AIGA Detroit & Cranbrook poster to scientific effect of his experimental project book. Sagmeister’s design method is often simple and basic but witty and dynamic. The strength of his works lies in his ability to conceptualise and come up with stunning original ideas.

He has won over 200 design awards, including four Grammy Awards for his album cover - h. p. zinker mountains of madness which he took the unprecedented step of paying the difference for the cost of production. Sagmeister took a year out in 1999, closing his studio to commercial work and concentrating on his own experimental projects. In 2001 he released the book ‘made you look’, which he compiled all his works from the beginning of his design life.

In 2005 he won a Grammy Award as art director of the once in a lifetime talking heads boxed set packaging. Currently among many projects Sagmeister continues his work on 20 things in my life I have learned so far, a series of typographic pieces inspired by the work of his grandfather that he began in 2004.

ผลงานออกแบบของแซกไมสเตอร์ล้วนน่าตื่นตาตื่นใจและแฝงอารมณ์ขันเพราะผสมผสานเทคนิคที่คุณไม่อาจ
คาดเดาไม่ว่าจะเป็นการกรีดตัวอักษรลงบนผิวหนังของตัวเองเพื่อทำโปสเตอร์โฆษณางานสัมมนาของไอก้า (AIGA) ในดีทรอยต์และแครนบรูกซึ่งสร้างเสียงฮือฮาไปทั่ววงการกราฟฟิกดีไซน์ ไปจนถึงการจัดทำหนังสือรวบรวมผลงานของเขาเองซึ่งเต็มไปด้วยเทคนิคและลูกเล่นต่างๆ วิธีการออกแบบของแซกไมสเตอร์อาจจะดูเรียบง่ายและธรรมดา ทว่าทรงพลังและสะท้อนความเฉลียวฉลาด ซึ่งจุดแข็งของเขาอยู่ที่ความสามารถในการสื่อแนวคิดที่สดใหม่ไม่เหมือนใคร

แซกไมสเตอร์สามารถคว้ารางวัลการออกแบบกว่า 200 รางวัล ที่โดดเด่นคือรางวัลแกรมมี่จากการออกแบบปกอัลบั้มเพลง เอช. พี. ซิงเกอร์ เมาน์เทนส์ ออฟ แมดเนส ที่เขาถึงกับยอมจ่ายส่วนต่างการพิมพ์ปกเพื่อให้ได้งานที่ออกมาสมบูรณ์แบบกว่า ในปี ค.ศ. 1999 แซกไมสเตอร์ปิดตัวเองไม่รับงานนอกเพื่อจดจ่อกับงานทดลองส่วนตัว จนกระทั่งปี ค.ศ. 2001 จึงได้ออกหนังสือชื่อ เมด ยู ลุก ซึ่งรวบรวมงานออกแบบทั้งหมดตลอดช่วงชีวิตการทำงานของเขา

อีกครั้งในปี ค.ศ. 2005 ที่แซคไมสเตอร์ได้รับรางวัลแกรมมี่จากผลงานการกำกับศิลป์ให้แก่ซีดีของนักพูดชุด วันซ์ อิน อะ ไลฟ์ไทม์ ปัจจุบันเขากำลังเดินหน้าผลิตผลงานหลายชิ้น ที่น่าสนใจคือ ทเวนตี้ ธิงส์ อิน มาย ไลฟ์ ไอ แฮฟ เลินด์ โซ ฟาร์ ชุดผลงานการออกแบบตัวอักษรที่ได้แรงบันดาลใจมาจากปู่ของเขาเองซึ่งเริ่มทำมาตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 2004
